What if the worst architectural fail of a city became the best thing that ever happened to its tourism? That’s Pisa in a nutshell.
Italy’s famous Leaning Tower of Pisa has become the city’s identity thanks to a miscalculation on the architect’s part. The tower was built on a poor foundation on a soft soil and over time, it impacted one side of the ground causing it to tilt. But the tower is not the only engineering wonder in Pisa’s piazza called Campo dei Miracoli or the Square of Miracles. There’s also the Baptistry and the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta.
Each year, thousands and thousands of visitors flock to the piazza to take photos of the tower. I had a lot of fun watching everybody take photos and do their own version of holding/pushing/touching the tower. My friends and I were part of that statistic. It was just too fun to do it!
I recommend visiting Pisa when in the Tuscany region. It’s a world wonder and a bucket list achievement.
