Barcelona hosted the 1992 Summer Olympics. This was significant because it was the return of the Olympics to Western Europe after the tragedy in Munich in 1972. It was also the 20th anniversary of the Munich massacre.
The 1992 Summer Olympics was also the last time it was held in the same year as the Winter Olympics. Since then, the International Olympic Committee decided to hold the games in alternating even-numbered years.
One of the highlights was the famous 1992 US Men’s Basketball team where NBA greats competed for the first time. Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Karl Malone, to name a few. And frankly, this was probably the last generation of basketball players I actually watched out for.
Since the 1992 games, Barcelona’s tourism has transformed and flourished. Rumor has it, the city is looking to bid for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games!

This park is often overlooked, but the whole area of Montjuic is beautiful and has so many views of the city. Thanks for sharing!
