A lot of items on my bucket list were checked off last year when I went to Japan. One of those was Mount Fuji. I vividly remember learning about this iconic volcano in class when I was just a kid and how it seemed beyond my reach back then. I’ve seen countless photographs, watched various movies and documentaries about this magnificent volcano. I don’t know why I was so fascinated by it and was bent on putting Mount Fuji on my bucket list. I think it was because it symbolized Japan.
Twenty years later, I found myself standing in front of a snow-capped Fuji-san. I went on the last week of March when the cherry blossom just started to bloom but in Honshu Island, it was still winter. I took the 1-day guided tour which included a ride on the Komagatake Ropeway, where you are presented with a sweeping overview of Hakone National Park, and a cruise on the pristine waters of Lake Ashi. Of course, the main highlight of the tour was stopping at the popular Mount Fuji 5th Station, the spot nearest to the summit where you can get a great view of the mountain. Vehicles are not permitted beyond this point but hikers are welcome to go further during open season.
Mount Fuji was as majestic as I imagined! I think I want to experience hiking it in the summer as well and be truly walking on its soil. Now, wouldn’t that be nice? Have you seen Mount Fuji up close and personal?

I’d love to visit Mount Fuji! Your pictures are great. Thanks so much for sharing and happy travels 🙂
Thank you! You should def go to Japan! 🙂
Looks amazing, the mountain is one of those iconic symbols that we relate to countries such as the Eiffel tower to France and the Sydney Harbour bridge to Australia
What an amazing view of Mt. Fuji. Japan is a place I have always wanted to see, but not sure I will get there.
I have only seen Mt. Fuji from the air and from a train. Would love to see if up close and personal. Would also like to hike it. Thanks for sharing your photos and experience.
I was in Japan some ten years ago, but didn’t get to Mount Fuji that time. It’s nice that you have fulfilled your dream. Happy travels 🙂
We visited Mt. Fuji a month ago and it was simply amazing! Freezing cold too! 🙂 Aren’t you lucky to be in Japan during cherry blossom season!
