Summer weather in Chicagoland made an appearance last weekend and it was fabulous. The cool 80 degree weather brought many locals and tourists out of their abodes and onto flip flop wearing mode. I didn’t indulge myself in a full summer outfit yet but I was tempted to.
I love this time of year when cafés and restaurants finally open their doors and windows. Literally. Outdoor dining season is my favorite and needless to say, my brunching self awoken. I had been laying low all winter like a bear in hibernation, so forgive me if I’ve gone a little over board last weekend.
For days, I’ve been searching for a new, deliciously Instagramable brunch place. This is such a hard task because Chicago offers COUNTLESS cafés and restaurants that fit the bill. Most of the time, I would end up leaving it to chance to spare me added first world stress.
Oh, I like the name. Let’s just go here.
That’s a sexy menu. Let’s go there!
Or I go by the good ole city struggle: If there’s no wait and we can find parking, it’s the one.
I went with the first.
Appellation Wine Bar & Restaurant
As much as I was intrigued by its play on word, I’m glad this place exceeded my expectations. I especially like the attached artisan cheese market that shares its space – Pastoral , and the seats by the open window where I did a lot of people watching. Most importantly, the menu was not only healthy but mouth-watering as well. Typical me ordered the delightful brunch board – which included ham, brie, fruit, herbs and baguettes – as I prefer to try everything in small servings rather than one big dish. My friend on the other hand, ordered the asparagus quiche which was equally delightful and savory.
If I look a little flushed, I assure you that it wasn’t the bottomless mimosas. It may have been the spring heat or so I tell myself.
So cheers, boys and girls for spring is finally here. Cheers to another new beginning. Cheers to bottomless mimosas.
And just like that, the Brunch Queen is back.

Looks so good! I love artisan cheese. I will have to remember this when I am in town.
It’s right up your alley then if you love artisan cheese!
Looks tasty! Need to make note of this if I head to Chicago
My sister lives in Chicago and I’m going to recommend this to her. I love the fact it has an attached cheese market. Chicago has so much to offer!
Chicago is such a foodie city! You should take advantage of having a sister who lives here! 🙂
Looks good! I’ve only been to Chicago once and it was only for a day (lame). I have a friend there now and would love to go back and visit! The quiche looks great!
Chicago’s brunches look nice! I’m about to start a Bunch series on the blog (and on my weekends too ;)) and its good to know that I’m not alone. Brunch Queens Unite!
I love brunch and that plate looks fabulous. I love the idea of a crusty top on the quiche as well – delish! Keeping in mind for any future trips to Chicago.
