Kentucky is the birthplace of bourbon whiskey, the distinctly American spirit that played an important role in America’s history and culture. Bourbon aficionados travel to the south to experience bourbon tourism at its finest – the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. This legendary trail takes you through the heart of Kentucky and its nine bourbon distilleries all the way from Louisville to Lexington and Loretto. It lets you experience the process of making bourbon, learn its history, view the facilities, drive through Kentucky’s beautiful landscapes and of course, drink bourbon.
My friends and I did not do the whole bourbon trail. We opted to go to the most known bourbon distillery, Jim Beam American Stillhouse in Clermont, Kentucky. No one wanted to be the designated driver and we didn’t want to spend money on hiring a limo. And besides, bourbon tasting is definitely unlike wine-tasting. After doing one distillery alone, we could barely function! However, if you love bourbon you might as well experience the Bourbon Trail. Kentucky has some amazing scenery made for road trips.
Here are some photos I took of our bourbon tour in Kentucky:
The tour with tasting costs $10 and lasts for about an hour and a half. I suggest booking it online before going to make sure you get a spot. You can go to Jim Beam’s website to make reservations.
